Prints, lets Mix it Up!

As we have seen on the runways from New York Fashion Week prints are alive and kicking! New prints have hit the scene as well as some classic favorites have stayed on. Last Spring I wrote about mixing prints and I’m about to again! There have been a few new trends that have emerged that make mixing prints even more fun. All right time to mix it up.

Mixing Prints Basics

Mixing prints can be a challenge and intimidating to those of us that have grown up learning all the clichés of what not to do ever with fashion such as no white after labor day and no black and brown etc. However mixing prints is another rule that should be broken.

1. As a novice print mixer it is best to stick to neutral colors and similar patterns. When you become more experienced then it will be okay to venture into a bolder color and print scheme. For instance a cream striped top with brown plaid shorts would mix well together and is virtually fool proof.

2. Keep Accessories simple. When you are wearing dual prints you have a lot going on. You should wear accents that are  classic in shape. For instance; ladylike satchels structured totes, single strand necklaces, watches and one bracelet. These are great ways to finish off your look.

3. Add Color. When wearing a neutral look from head to toe it is essential that you add splashes of color! Remember keep the shapes simple and the colors bright. Remember color is back in a bold way this Spring!

4.  Pleasing Prints. Some of the most popular prints this season are: floral, polka dots, paisley, plaids, animal prints and stripes. Floral prints are still popular this year because of its classic look and versatility. Polka Dots came on the scene late last year and exude that ladylike flair. Paisley prints are fun alternative to floral prints. Plaids are more sophisticated this year and have more of a stylish feel. Animal prints are great because they exude a youthful fun vibe. Last but definitely not least you can’t go wrong with classic preppy stripes!

See mixing prints isn’t as hard as it seems! Just keep it simple and you should be fine. And of course down the road with more experience you may be able to be bolder in your mixing techniques. However; when in doubt ask me any fashion question you have. Have a good week!

Below you can read about how I came up with the name Ruby Madison! What does the name Ruby Madison mean? Ruby comes from Proverbs 31 where the Bible is describing a woman of Noble Character: 10A capable, intelligent, and [b]virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls. Proverbs 31:10 The Amplified Bible Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile. Proverbs 31 The Message Bible Madison comes from Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York. Madison Avenue is known as the “fashionable road” where the most well known fashion designers, hair salons etc. are located. Therefore, we come to the name Ruby Madison which stands for a fashionable woman of noble character and strength that looks good while navigating in her everyday life.© Whether she stays at home with her children or works outside the home or both; a Ruby Madison Woman can handle it all and does it all with style.
